Mami Update 2

The kidney biopsy report is out. It's Lupus Nephritis classified by WHO as Class IV. Advanced Stage.

Lupus Nephritis is a type of kidney disease occurs in SLE patient. About one-third of chance. Some of the early signs are edema (swelling) and weight gain.

Strangely, all her other reports (blood, urine, 24-hour urine sample) came out rather normal. But the good news is that her kidney is still OK. It's still funtioning normally.

The doctor already started treatment. We can choose between oral medication, or drips, which need to be administered at the hospital. Since she's completely paranoid about needles (and injections), we opted for the slightly more expensive and new oral drugs.

Her doctor will monitor her situation for a couple of weeks. It's going to be a long term treatment (about 5 years). Possibly a lifelong medication as well. But as long as it can bring her condition under control, we'll do that.

Get well soon, Mami.
